Private John Kelly

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

John Kelly enlisted at Maryboro on 5 May 1917. He was described as being 5' 7ΒΌ" tall, having a dark complexion and brown hair, and defective teeth. He stated that he was 23 years old, was born in Belfast, and worked as a labourer.

On 2 or 3 July 1917 he was posted to the North Irish Horse (regimental number 2588). He was reported to have deserted from the regiment's reserve base at Antrim later that month. It is not known if he subsequentially returned to duty or was apprehended.
